Cale Makar records first career NHL playoff overtime winner

Colorado Avalanche defenseman and 2020 Calder Trophy winner Cale Makar of Calgary, Alberta scored the overtime winner on Thursday in a 2-1 Colorado Avalanche win over the Nashville Predators in game two of the Western Conference Quarterfinals of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. With the win, the Avalanche lead the Predators two games to none in the best out of seven series.

Makar scored at 8:31 of the first overtime period from Devon Toews of Abbotsford, British Columbia and Nico Sturm. He was one of two Canadians on the Avalanche to score on Thursday. He was joined by Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

So far in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Makar has two goals and two assists for four points. He is also a +2 with one game-winning goal, two blocked shots, one hit, and one takeaway. Where Makar is having his biggest impact is with creating scoring opportunities. He has 14 shots on goal, which happens to lead all players in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs so far.

The Avalanche meanwhile are one of two teams in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs that are up two games to none. The other is the Carolina Hurricanes, which lead the Boston Bruins two games to none heading into game three on Friday.
