Aaron Brown and Christabel Nettey win medals at the 2018 Diamond League event in Stockholm

Aaron Brown of Toronto, Ontario and Christabel Nettey of Surrey, British Columbia each won medals in events included in the Diamond League points race at the 2018 Diamond League event in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday. Brown won the silver in the men’s 200m and Nettey won bronze in the women’s long jump.

In the men’s 200m, Brown posted a second place time of 20.07 seconds. Reigning world champion Ramil Guliyev of Turkey won the gold medal with a time of 19.92 seconds. Luxolo Adams of South Africa won the bronze medal with a time of 20.36 seconds.

Brown reached the podium by 0.34 seconds. Ameer Webb of the United States finished in fourth place with a time of 20.41 seconds.

Meanwhile, Brown has had an excellent Diamond League season. He is in first place in the Diamond League standings with 25 points. He has one more point than Guliyev.

In the women’s long jump, Nettey had a jump of 6.83 metres. Lorraine Ugen of Great Britain won the gold medal with a jump of 6.85 metres and Malaika Mihambo of Germany won the silver medal with a jump of 6.85 metres as well.

Nettey earned a podium spot by .02 metres. Ivana Spanovic of Serbia finished in fourth place with a jump of 6.81 metres. Unlike the men’s 200 metres, it was the first women’s long jump Diamond League event of the season. The medals for Nettey and Brown will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
