Madison Broad wins silver in women’s 200m backstroke swimming at 2018 Youth Olympic Games

Madison Broad of Wallaceburg, Ontario won the silver medal for Canada in women’s 200 metre backstroke swimming at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires on Tuesday. It is Canada’s fourth medal of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games as they currently have two silver medals and two bronze medals.

In the girls’ 200 metre backstroke, Broad posted a time of 2:10.32. Tatiana Salcutan of Moldova won the gold medal with a time of 2:10.13. Kaylee McKeown of Australia won the bronze medal with a time of 2:10.67.

Broad earned a medal by 0.63 seconds. Rhyan White of the United States finished in fourth place with a time of 2:10.95.

Broad is the second Canadian swimmer in two days to earn a medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. On Monday, Finlay Knox of Okotoks, Alberta won the bronze medal in the boys’ 200 metre individual medley swimming competition.

In boys field hockey, Canada lost 5-2 to Bangladesh. A playoff spot is in jeopardy at the moment because Canada is not favoured to beat India, while Bangladesh is favoured to beat Kenya in the final Pool B match for each team. Canada and Bangladesh each have records of one win and three losses. There are three teams undefeated in the tournament to date. Argentina leads Pool A with a record of four wins and zero losses, while India and Australia lead Pool B with a record of three wins and zero losses.
