Brad Marchand scores fourth Stanley Cup Playoff overtime winner

Florida Panthers left winger Brad Marchand of Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia scored his fourth National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoff overtime winner on Friday night. He accomplished the feat in a 5-4 Panthers win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. With the win, the Panthers won their first game of the series, but still trail the Eastern Conference semifinals two games to one.

Marchand’s game-winning goal came with four minutes and 33 seconds left in the first overtime period. Carter Verhaeghe of Toronto, Ontario and Dmitry Kulikov of Russia had the assists.

Marchand was one of four Canadians to score for the Panthers. The others were Jonah Gadjovich of Whitby, Ontario, Sam Reinhart of West Vancouver, British Columbia, and Verhaeghe. A total of three Canadians on the Panthers had multi-point games. Reinhart and Verhaeghe each had one goal and one assist for two points, and Evan Rodrigues of Toronto, Ontario had two assists.

Marchand’s three prior playoff overtime winners came while with the Boston Bruins. They came on May 16, 2013 in a 3-2 Bruins win over the New York Rangers (game one of the 2013 Eastern Conference semifinals), on May 17, 2021 in a 4-3 Bruins win over the Washington Capitals (game two of the 2021 Eastern Conference quarterfinals), and on June 3, 2021 in a 2-1 Bruins win over the New York Islanders (game three of the 2021 Eastern Conference semifinals).
