Brad Marchand named NHL first star of the week

Boston Bruins left winger Brad Marchand of Halifax, Nova Scotia is the National Hockey League first star of the week for the week from January 10-16. In four games, Marchand had six goals and four assists for 10 points.

Marchand opened the week with a three-point performance (two goals and one assist) in a 7-3 Boston win over the Washington Capitals on January 10. That was followed by a hat trick in a 5-1 Bruins win over the Montreal Canadiens on January 12, two assists in a 3-2 Bruins win over the Philadelphia Flyers on January 13, and one goal and one assist for two points in a 4-3 Bruins win over the Nashville Predators on January 15. Also in the week, Marchand was a +1 with two penalty minutes, five power-play points, one shorthanded point, one game-winning goal, 15 shots on goal, six hits, four blocked shots, and three faceoff wins.

This is the sixth time in Marchand’s NHL career, he has been the first star of the week. He last received the honour for the week from November 18-24, 2019.

On the 2021-22 NHL regular season, Marchand has 20 goals and 23 assists for 43 points in only 30 games. He is a +5 with 51 penalty minutes, 17 power-play points, two shorthanded goals, three game-winning goals, 96 shots on goal, five faceoff wins, 12 blocked shots, 46 hits, 19 takeaways, and 22 giveaways.

The Bruins meanwhile are winners of five straight games and are in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 46 points. They have a record of 22 wins, 11 regulation losses and two losses in extra time.
