Annika Behnke of Peace River, Alberta and Kole Sauve of Grand Prairie, Alberta won the gold medal for Canada in pairs figure skating on Monday at the 2024 Youth Olympic Winter Games in Gangwon, South Korea. For Canada, it was their third gold medal of the Youth Olympic Winter Games and fifth medal overall. They are in 13th place overall.
Behnke and Sauve posted a score of 113.63 points. Cayla Smith and Jared McPike of the United States won the silver medal with 98 points, and Carolina Shan Campillo and Pau Vilella of Spain won the bronze medal with 94.03 points. Behnke and Sauve reached the podium by 25.27 points over Peyton Bellamy-Martins and Kryshtof Pradeaux of Australia, who finished in fourth place with 88.36 points.
In men’s hockey, Canada won Group B and advanced to the semifinals with a 4-1 win over Finland. Alessandro di Iorio of Vaughan, Ontario registered the hat trick. The other Canadian goal scorer was Ryan Lin of Richmond, British Columbia. Canada will next face the United States in the semifinal. The other semifinal has the Czech Republic versus Finland.
In mixed doubles curling, Team Canada has a perfect record of three wins and zero losses. The Canadian team of Cailey Locke of Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Simon Perry of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, Newfoundland, trounced Nigeria 14-0.
