Andre De Grasse wins two silver medals in the Diamond League Final

Canadian Olympic gold medallist Andre de Grasse of Markham, Ontario won two silver medals on Thursday in the 2021 Diamond League Finals in Zurich, Switzerland. De Grasse placed second in the men’s 100 metres and the men’s 200 metres.

In the 100 metres, De Grasse posted a second place time of 9.89 seconds. Fred Kerley of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 9.87 seconds. Ronnie Baker of the United States won the bronze medal with a time of 9.91 seconds. De Grasse earned a medal by .07 seconds over Trayvon Bromell of the United States, who had a fourth place time of 9.96 seconds.

De Grasse’s time of 9.89 seconds tied a personal best, which was set initially when he won a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. When De Grasse won the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro,  he had a time of 9.91 seconds.

In the 200 metres, De Grasse had a time of 19.72 seconds. Kenneth Bednarek of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 19.7 seconds. Kerley won the bronze medal with a time of 19.83 seconds. De Grasse earned a medal by 0.41 seconds over Aaron Brown of Toronto, Ontario, who was in fourth place with a time of 20.13 seconds. De Grasse’s personal best time in the 200 metres was 19.62 seconds, which was set when he won the gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.
