Andre De Grasse wins silver in men’s 100m at 2024 Diamond League Rabat

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Andre de Grasse of Scarborough, Ontario won the silver medal in the men’s 100 metes at a Diamond League event in Rabat, Morrocco on Sunday. For de Grasse, it was his 20th career Golden League medal. He has previously won 11 gold medals, four silver medals, and five bronze medals.

De Grasse, who won a gold medal for Canada in the men’s 200 metres at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, had a second place time on Sunday of 10.19 seconds. Emanuel Eseme of Cameroon won the gold medal with a time of 10.11 seconds. Jeremiah Azu of Great Britain won the bronze medal with a time of 10.25 seconds. De Grasse reached the podium by seven one-hundredths of a second over Brandon Hicklin of the United States, who finished in fourth place with a time of 10.26 seconds.

In the 2024 Diamond League standings, De Grasse is in seventh place with seven points. Christian Coleman of the United States leads with 15 points.

De Grasse’s 100 metre Diamond League gold medals came in Oslo in 2016, 2017, and 2022, in Stockholm in 2017, and in Eugene in 2021. De Grasse’s 200 metre Diamond League gold medals came in Birmingham in 2016, in Rome in 2017, in Rabat in 2017 and 21019, in Oslo in 2021, and Eugene in 2023. De Grasse’s other Diamond League silver medal in the 100 metres came in London in 2019. He also has a Diamond League silver medal in the 200 metres in Doha and Zurich in 2021. De Grasse’s 100 metre Diamond League bronze medal came in Birmingham in 2019. He also has 200 metre Diamond League bronze medals in Lausanne in 2019, in Brussels in 2019 and 2021, and Gateshead in 2021. The silver medal for De Grasse will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
