The British Columbia Lions have found a way to improve their offense with the loss of Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke long term due to injury. On Wednesday, they acquired quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. from the Montreal Alouettes for a first round pick in the 2023 Canadian Football League Draft according to the Montreal Gazette.
The Lions become Adams Jr.’s third CFL team. In addition to his two stints and six seasons with the Alouettes, Adams Jr. also spent one season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Adams has been the backup this season in Montreal to Trevor Harris. He has completed 21 of 39 passes for 294 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Adams also has eight rushes for 33 yards and another major score.
The Lions are currently in second place in the West Division. They have a record of eight wins and two losses.
In other CFL news, there is no doubt that Jon Ryan of Regina, Saskatchewan is starting to get comfortable with the Edmonton Elks. The veteran punter was traded from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for an eighth round pick in the 2023 CFL Draft on July 26. In four games, he has 24 punts for 808 yards. Ryan previously played two seasons in the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2004 and 2005, and the Roughriders in 2019 and 2021.
