Zach Hyman records third career NHL hat trick

Edmonton Oilers left winger Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario registered his third career National Hockey League hat trick on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 6-1 Oilers win over the Carolina Hurricanes at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

Hyman put the Oilers up 3-0 at 5:46 of the first period from Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario and Mattias Janmark. He then put the Oilers up 4-0 at 14:03 of the first period from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia and Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario. Then, Hyman’s hat trick came at 9:35 of the third period from McDavid to close out the scoring. Hyman’s prior hat tricks came on December 13, 2022 in a 6-3 Oilers win over the Nashville Predators and on November 11, 2023, in a 4-1 Oilers win over the Seattle Kraken.

There were three Canadians who scored for the Oilers on Wednesday. The others were Warren Foegele of Markham, Ontario, and Ryan McLeod of Mississauga, Ontario. Hyman was also one of four Canadians on the Oilers with a multi-point game. The others were McDavid (three assists), Foegele (one goal and one assist for two points), and Bouchard (two assists).

In 2023-24, Hyman has 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points in 22 games. He is a +6 with 18 penalty minutes, six power-play points, three game-winning goals, 78 shots on goal, three faceoff wins, 15 blocked shots, 20 hits, eight takeaways and five giveaways.
