The first week of the 2026 Canadian Football League season is in the books and two Canadians recorded touchdowns on winning teams. They were Montreal Alouettes wide receiver Tyson Philpot of Delta, British Columbia and Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Brady Oliveira of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Philpot had a highlight reel catch from Davis Alexander on Thursday in a 30-27 Alouettes win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario. Philpot’s catch was for six yards from quarterback Davis Alexander, and tied the game at 24 at the 2:51 mark of the fourth quarter. The reason why Philpot’s catch was of the highlight reel variety is because Philpot caught the football with one hand and was heavily defended by Tiger-Cats cornerback Gregory Junior at the time. Philpot finished the game with seven catches for 76 receiving yards.

Oliveira began the scoring in Friday’s game with a 19-yard touchdown run. His touchdown came with four minutes and 31 seconds left in the first quarter in a 30-28 Blue Bombers win over the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium in Calgary. Oliveira finished the game with 115 yards rushing and three catches for 24 receiving yards. Oliveira was the CFL’s most outstanding player in 2024, and is one of the game’s most electrifying running backs.
