The 2023 Major League Baseball season starts on Thursday. Let’s take a look at the 12 Canadians on MLB rosters.
Matt Brash–The Kingston, Ontario native is a part of the Seattle Mariners bullpen. In 39 games last year, he had a record of four wins and four losses and an earned run average of 4.44.
Freddie Freeman–The Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman batted .325 with 21 home runs and 100 runs batted in. He led the National League in runs (117) and on base percentage (.407) and led Major League Baseball in hits (199) and doubles (47). Freeman was also an All-Star for a sixth time in 2022.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.–The Montreal, Quebec native is the first baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays. He batted .274 with 32 home runs and 97 runs batted in, and was an All-Star for the second straight year in 2022.
Josh Naylor–The Mississauga, Ontario native is the first baseman of the Cleveland Guardians. He batted .256 with 20 home runs and 79 runs batted in during 2022.
Tyler O’Neill–The Burnaby, British Columbia native is the center fielder for the St. Louis Cardinals. He batted .228 with 14 home runs and 58 runs batted in during 2022.
James Paxton–The Ladner, British Columbia native is the fifth starter in the Boston Red Sox rotation. However, he currently is injured with a hamstring injury.
Nick Pivetta–The Victoria, British Columbia native is the third starter in the Red Sox rotation. In 2022, he had a record of 10 wins, 12 losses, 175 strikeouts, and an earned run average of 4.56.
Zach Pop–The Brampton, Ontario native is a part of the Blue Jays bullpen. In 35 games last year, he had a record of four wins, zero losses, and an earned run average of 2.77.
Cal Quantrill–The Port Hope, Ontario native is the third starter in the Guardians rotation. In 2022, he had a record of 15 wins, five losses. 128 strikeouts, and an earned run average of 3.38.
Jordan Romano–The Markham, Ontario native is the closer of the Blue Jays. In 2022, he had a record of five wins, four losses, 36 saves and an earned run average of 2.11. Romano was also an All-Star for the first time.
Jameson Taillon–Taillon is the second starting pitcher in the Chicago Cubs rotation. In 2022, he had a record of 14 wins, five losses, 151 strikeouts, and an earned run average of 3.91.
Joey Votto–The Toronto, Ontario native is the first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds. In 2022, he batted .205 with 11 home runs and 41 runs batted in.
