Toronto Tempo have record performance in win over Los Angeles Sparks

The Toronto Tempo had the most dominant victory in the history of their franchise on Thursday night. In a 125-97 Tempo win over the Los Angeles Sparks at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario, the Tempo won by 28 points. The prior biggest victory for the Tempo came on May 30 when they beat the Seattle Storm by 21 points (93-72).

The Tempo star on Thursday was guard Marina Mabrey, who had 53 points. She tied a WNBA record for most points in a game. Mabrey is tied with Liz Cambage, who had 53 points on July 17, 2018 in a 104-87 Dallas Wings win over the New York Liberty, and A’ja Wilson, who had 53 points on August 22, 2023 in a 112-100 Las Vegas Aces win over the Atlanta Dream.

On Thursday, Mabrey made 17 of 28 field goals, nine of 18 three-point shots, and 10 of 12 free throws. She had six rebounds, two assists, and was a +36.

Mabrey was one of five Tempo players to reach double digits in points. The others were guard Julie Allemand (13 points), forward Marina Conde (13 points), guard Kia Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario (12 points), and forward Laura Juskaite (10 points). Allemand and Juskaite had double-doubles. Allemand had 14 assists and Juskaite had 12 rebounds.

This season, Mabrey is now averaging 21.2 points per game, 3.6 assists per game, 3.5 rebounds per game, and 1.1 steals per game. She has a field goal percentage of .459, a three point percentage of .403 and a free throw percentage of .857.

With the win, the Tempo improve to a record of nine wins and nine losses. They are tied with the Washington Mystics for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

In other Tempo news, they will have four home games this season in Canadian cities outside of Toronto. They will play the Dallas Wings on July 10 and the New York Liberty on July 12 in Montreal, Quebec, and the Portland Fire on August 21 and the Las Vegas Aces on August 23 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
