
Three more Canadians have qualified for the Sunday Showdown of the 2022 Calgary Stampede. On Friday, Pool B action wrapped up, and Ben Andersen of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Logan Hay of Wildwood, Alberta, and Jacob Gardner of Fort St. John, British Columbia reached the final four in their respective divisions.
Andersen and Hay were first and fourth respectively in the saddle bronc division. Andersen had a Pool B leading $13,500, while Hay was fourth with $9,000. On Friday, Hay posted the second best score of the day with 86.5 points on the bronc Comeback Red. He was tied with Sterling Crawley of Stephenville, Texas. The best performance came from Brody Cress of Hillsdale, Wyoming, who had 90 points.
Gardner meanwhile had the third best result in Pool B in the bull riding. He had $5500, and was behind Creek Young of Rogersville, Missouri ($1100), and Maverick Potter of Waxahachie, Texas ($7,000). Gardner only posted one result in four days of Pool B action. He made it count when it mattered most. His score of 84.5 points was the best on Thursday.
Andersen, Hay and Gardner join seven other Canadians who qualified for Sunday Showdown through Pool A. They were Shelby Spielman of Ponoka, Alberta (ladies barrel racing), Cody Coverchuk of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan (bull riding), Jared Parsonage of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan (bull riding), Zeke Thurston of Big Valley, Alberta (saddle bronc), Clint Laye of Cadogan, Alberta (bareback), Logan Bird of Nanton, Alberta (tie down roping), and Cody Cassidy of Donalda, Alberta (steer wrestling).
Meanwhile on Friday, the Rangeland Derby chuckwagon racing event continued. Layne MacGillivray of Halkirk, Alberta is the overall leader at 9:49.99. Chanse Vigen of Calgary, Alberta posted the fastest time on Friday at 1:12.83.
