Three Canadian women’s beach volleyball teams 8-0 at 2022 World Championships

The Canadian women’s beach volleyball teams continued their perfect play at the 2022 World Beach Volleyball Championships in Rome, Italy on Sunday. After three days of competition, the Canadian women have a perfect record of eight wins and zero losses.

In Pool D action, Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara of Richmond, British Columbia won a thrilling three-set match against Barbara Seixas de Freitas and Carolina Solberg Salgado of Brazil. The McNamara twins lost the first set 21-18, before coming back to win 23-21, 15-13. This was the first set the McNamaras lost in the tournament so far, as they outscored their opponents 139-116 in winning all three matches.

In Pool E, the Canadian team of Brandie Wilkerson and Sophie Bukovec of Toronto, Ontario, defeated the American duo of Betsi Flint and Kelly Cheng 21-19, 21-19 to improve to a record of 3-0. Wilkerson and Bukovec have not lost a set in the tournament to date, outscoring their opponents 130-109.

In Pool J, the reigning world champions, Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ontario, and Melissa Humana-Paredes of Toronto, Ontario, improved to 2-0 following a 22-20, 21-19 win over Lezana Placette and Alexia Richard of France. Pavan and Humana-Paredes next play Germany’s Chantal Laboureur and Sarah Schultz on Monday with first place on the line.
