Team Canada wins three medals at Track Cycling Nations Cup in Scotland

Team Canada won three medals this past weekend at the 2022 International Cycling Union (UCI) Track Nations Cup in Glasgow, Scotland. Canadian Olympic gold medalist Kelsey Mitchell of Brandon, Manitoba won the gold medal in the women’s sprint, Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Lauriane Genest of Montreal, Quebec won the bronze medal in the women’s Keirin, while Mitchell, Genest, and Sarah Orban of Calgary, Alberta won silver in the women’s team sprint.

In the women’s sprint, Laurine Van Riessen of the Netherlands won the silver medal and Martha Bayona Pineda of Colombia won the bronze medal. In the women’s Keirin, Mathilde Gros of France won the gold medal and Bayona Pineda won the silver medal. In the women’s team sprint, Kyra Lamberink, Hetty Van Der Wouw, and Steffie Van Der Peet of the Netherlands won the gold medal. Lowri Thomas, Emma Finucane, and Rhian Edmunds of Great Britain won the bronze medal.

Mitchell and Genest both won their Olympic medals in track cycling at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, in the same disciplines they won medals on the weekend in Scotland. The medals for Mitchell, Genest, and Orban will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
