Taylor Pendrith in contention at the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ontario is in contention at the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Dallas, Texas. After two rounds of play, Pendrith is at -11, and in a four-way tie for fifth place.

In the first round on Thursday, Pendrith shot a score of seven-under-par 64. He had seven birdies and zero bogeys. Pendrith birdied the fourth, fifth, ninth, 10th, 14th, 15th, and 18th holes. In the second round on Friday, Pendrith shot a four-under-par 68. He had six birdies and two bogeys. He birdied the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth holes, and 18th holes, and bogeyed the 15th and 17th holes.

Jake Knapp of Costa Mesa, California is the leader at -14. He won his first ever PGA Tour event in February when he won the Mexico Open. Matt Wallace of London, England and Troy Merritt of Osage, Iowa are tied for second place at -13. Merritt is a two-time PGA Tour winner as he has won the 2015 Quicken Loans National in Washington, D.C. and the 2018 Barbasol Championship in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Wallace’s lone PGA Tour win came at the 2023 Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic.

Kelly Kraft of Denton, Texas is alone in fourth place at -12. Pendrith is in a six-way tie for fifth place with Sung-hoon Kang of Jeju City, South Korea, Patton Kizzire of Montgomery, Alabama, Davis Riley of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Keith Mitchell of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Ben Kohles of Dallas. Kang, Kizzire, Riley and Mitchell are PGA Tour winners in the past. Kang won the 2019 Byron Nelson; Kizzire won the 2017 OHL Classic in Mayakoba, Mexico and the 2018 Sony Open in Hawaii; Mitchell won the 2019 Honda Classic; and Riley won the 2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans with partner Nick Hardy of Northbrook, Illinois.
