Stephen Ames of Vancouver, British Columbia won the 2024 Chubb Classic in Naples, Florida on Saturday. The Champions Tour event was only 36 holes instead of 48 holes because of inclement weather.
Ames shot a two-round score of -13. Rocco Mediate of Greensburg, Pennsylvania finished in second place with a score of -10 and three strokes back.
In the first round on Friday, Ames had five birdies and zero bogeys. He birdied the sixth, eighth, 13th, 15th, and 18th holes. Then on Saturday in the second round, Ames had nine birdies and one bogey. He birdied the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, 11th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 17th, and a bogey in the 15th end.
Ames has now won seven PGA Tour Champions events. They have been the 2017 Mitsubishi Electric Classic in Duluth, Georgia, the 2021 Principal Charity Classic in Des Moines, Iowa, the 2023 Hassan II Golf Trophy in Rabat, Morocco, the 2023 Mitsubishi Electric Classic, the 2023 Principal Charity Classic, and the 2023 Boeing Classic in Snoqualmie, Washington. When Ames won the 2021 Principal Charity Classic, he beat fellow Canadian Mike Weir by a stroke after shooting a four round score of -15.
After two events, Ames is in second place in the overall money standings with $328,000. Steven Alker of Hamilton, New Zealand is the leader with $367,990.
