Stampeders trade quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to Tiger-Cats

The Calgary Stampeders have traded quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats according to Don Mitchell of Global News on Monday. In return, the Stampeders will receive a third-round draft pick in the 2023 Canadian Football League Canadian Collegiate Draft, a fifth-round draft pick in the 2024 CFL Canadian Collegiate Draft, and future considerations. It now appears the Stampeders are committing to quarterback Jake Maier long term.

Mitchell has spent the last decade in Calgary since 2012. He has completed 2496 passes in 3866 attempts for 32541 passing yards, 188 touchdown passes, and 89 interceptions. Mitchell also has had 169 rushes for 772 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.

In 2016 and 2018, Mitchell was named the CFL’s most outstanding player. In 2016, he completed 412 passes in 606 attempts for 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Mitchell also had 14 rushes for 60 rushing yards. In 2018, he completed 356 passes in 585 attempts for 35 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Mitchell also had 16 rushes for 108 rushing yards.

In 2014 and 2018, Mitchell was also the CFL’s most valuable player in the Grey Cup. In 2014, he completed 25 of 34 passes for 334 yards as the Stampeders defeated the Tiger-Cats 20-16 at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia. He also had four rushes for 19 yards. In 2018, Mitchell completed 24 of 36 passes for 253 yards, two passing touchdowns, and two interceptions, as the Stampeders defeated the Ottawa Redblacks 27-16 at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta. He also had one carry for seven rushing yards.
