According to the Associated Press on Wednesday, Stacey Allaster of Windsor, Ontario is about to make tennis history. Later this summer, Allaster will be the first ever female tournament director at the U.S. Open.

Allaster was the chairman and chief executive officer of the Women’s Tennis Association from 2009 to 2015. She has also been the Tournament Director at the Rogers Cup in the past. Allaster, who is also currently the chief executive officer of the United States Tennis Association, takes over tournament director duties at the U.S. Open from David Brewer of New York, who had been in that position since 2012.

Due to cornavirus, there is no slam dunk that the U.S. Open will take place in 2020 at Flushing Meadows. That is because New York has been one of the hardest hit regions in the entire world when it comes to the pandemic. There are currently 401, 983 cases of coronavirus in New York state alone, and 30,724 deaths. There were 44 deaths reported in New York alone on Thursday, the second most reported deaths among all American states.

The most reported new deaths are in Florida, where there have been 48 coronavirus fatalities. The National Basketball Association and Major League Soccer need to seriously reassess restarting their leagues in Florida because coronavirus is a hot spot there too.
