Sophiane Methot of Longueuil, Quebec won the bronze medal in a World Cup women’s trampoline competition in Coimbra, Portugal on Sunday. This was Methot’s first individual World Cup medal. She previously won a bronze medal in a World Cup women’s synchronized trampoline World Cup in 2017 in Minsk, Belarus with Sarah Milette of Greenfield Park, Quebec.

Methot had a score of 53.99 points. Chisato Doihata of Japan won the gold medal with a score of 56.21 points and Madeline Davidson of New Zealand won the silver medal with a score of 54.26 points. Methot reached the podium by 0.69 points over Abbie Watts of Australia, who had a fourth place score of 53.3 points.

Methot’s greatest accomplishment in trampoline was winning the bronze medal in the women’s individual event at the World Trampoline Championships. That was an accomplishment she achieved in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2017. At the time, Methot placed behind gold medalist Tatsiana Piatrenia of Belarus and silver medalist Ayano Kishi of Japan.

Methot is trying to continue the deep Canadian tradition of trampoline excellence, dating back to the three Olympic medals won by Karen Cockburn and the two Olympic gold medals won by Rosannagh MacLennan, each of Toronto, Ontario. The World Cup bronze medal in Portugal for Methot will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
