Sophiane Methot wins Olympic women’s trampoline bronze for Canada

Sophiane Methot of Longueuil, Quebec won a bronze medal for Canada in women’s trampoline on Friday. At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Methot posted a third place score of 55.65 points.

Byony Page of Great Britain won the gold medal with 56.48 points. Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya of the Individual Neutral Athletes won the silver medal with 56.06 points. Methot reached the podium by 0.14 points. Xueying Zhu of China finished in fourth place with 55.51 points.

Methot had been entering the Olympic Games with momentum. In June, she won a bronze medal in the women’s trampoline at a World Cup in Coimbra, Portugal. This was her first career World Cup medal, to go along with the two bronze medals at the World Trampoline Championships, and the five career gold medals at the Pan American Gymnastics Championships.

This was the eighth time that Canada has won a medal in trampoline at the Olympic Games. Mathieu Turgeon of Pointe-Claire, Quebec won a bronze medal in the men’s trampoline at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Karen Cockburn of Toronto, Ontario won bronze in women’s trampoline at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, silver at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, and silver at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Jason Burnett of Etobicoke, Ontario won bronze in men’s trampoline at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and Rosie MacLennan of King, Ontario won gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in women’s trampoline.
