Sharks centre Macklin Celebrini named NHL first star of the week

San Jose Sharks centre Macklin Celebrini of North Vancouver, British Columbia was named the National Hockey League First Star of the Week for the week from November 25 to December 1, 2024 on Monday. In four games, Celebrini had four goals and three assists for seven points.

Celebrini was also a +4 with two penalty minutes, one power-play point, two game-winning goals, 11 shots on goal, four hits, six blocked shots, and 29 faceoff wins. He had two goals and one assist for three points in a shocking 7-2 Sharks win over the Los Angeles Kings on November 25, one goal in a 4-3 Sharks loss to the Ottawa Senators on November 27, one goal and one assist for two points in an 8-5 Sharks win over the Seattle Kraken on November 29, and one assist in a 4-2 Sharks win over the Kraken on November 30.

Celebrini’s power play point and first game-winning goal of the week came against the Kings. Celebrini scored the game-winning goal at 1:03 of the third period from Henry Thrun and Jan Rutta to put the Sharks up 3-2, and then scored a power play goal at 3:43 of the third period from William Eklund and William Smith to put the Sharks up 5-2. Celebrini’s second game-winning goal of the week came against the Kraken on Friday. Celebrini scored from Fabian Zetterlund at 14:03 of the second period and put the Kraken up 6-4 at the time.

Also on Monday, Celebrini was named the NHL Rookie of the Month for November. In 14 games, he had seven goals and five assists for 12 points.

Celebrini was the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. In 15 games this season, he has eight goals and six assists for 14 points. Celebrini is a -2 with four penalty minutes, two power-play points, three game-winning goals, 47 shots on goal, 106 faceoff wins, 12 blocked shots, nine hits, five takeaways, and 29 giveaways.
