In Canadian Football League free agency this month, the Ottawa Redblacks signed Shaq Johnson of Brampton, Ontario. Johnson joins the Redblacks after five seasons with the British Columbia Lions.

Last year in B.C., Johnson had 30 catches for 295 yards. In 68 CFL games, he has 127 catches for 1749 and seven touchdowns.

In an interesting note, Johnson’s best CFL game of his career with the Lions came against the Redblacks. On September 21, 2019, he had four catches for a career-high 160 yards and one touchdown in a 40-7 Lions win.

The bottom line is that the Redblacks are in much need for an offensive boost heading into the 2022 Canadian Football League season. They only scored 224 points in 2021, which was the least in the entire league.

In other CFL free agency news, the Calgary Stampeders have signed defensive back Elie Bouka of Laval, Quebec. Bouka has played the last three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Last season he had two defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble in six games. In 28 games with Saskatchewan, Bouka has seven defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles, three interceptions and one forced fumble. Bouka has a Calgary connection as he played his university football with the University of Calgary Dinos.
