
Canadian Olympic gold medalist Sebastien Toutant of L’Assomption, Quebec won the gold medal in a men’s World Cup slopestyle snowboarding event at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary on Saturday. It was one of two medals for Canadian snowboarders as Canadian Olympic silver medalist Laurie Blouin of Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury, Quebec won the silver medal.
Toutant posted a score of 86.86 points to win the first World Cup slopestyle snowboarding event of the 2022 season. Mons Roisland of Norway won the silver medal with 84.50 points, and Luke Winkelmann of the United States won the bronze medal with 83.2 points. Toutant reached the podium by 4.9 points over Canadian snowboarding icon Mark McMorris of Regina, Saskatchewan, who had a score of 81.96 points.
In women’s slopestyle snowboarding, Blouin posted a score of 75.73 points to reach the podium by 11.77 points over Melissa Peperkamp of the Netherlands, who had a fourth place score of 63.96 points. Kokomo Murase of Japan won the gold medal with 77.58 points and Miyabi Onitsuka of Japan won the silver medal with 77.18 points.
Toutant and Blouin each won their Olympic medals at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. Toutant placed first in men’s big air snowboarding, and Blouin won silver in the women’s slopestyle snowboarding. The medals for Toutant and Blouin in Calgary will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
