Savannah Grewal of Mississauga, Ontario is in contention after the third round of the 2024 Blue Bay LPGA event in Hainan Island, China. After 54 holes, Grewal is at -9 and three strokes back of the leaders.
Grewal shot a first round score of three-under-par 69 with four birdies and one bogey. She birdied the 11th, 12th, 14th, and 15th holes and bogeyed the eighth hole. In the second round, Grewal shot a second round score of two-over-par 74 with two birdies and four bogeys. Grewal birdied the third and eighth holes, and bogeyed the first, fifth, 13th and 17th holes. Then in round three, Grewal stunned the golf crowd with a Blue Bay LPGA course record eight-under-par to move from -1 to -9. Grewal had 10 birdies and one double bogey. She birdied the third, fifth, seventh, eighth, ninth, 10th, 11th, 14th, 16th, and 17th holes, and double bogeyed the 12th hole.
There is a three-way tie for the lead. There you can find New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, a two time major champion, and Americans Bailey Tardy and Sarah Schmelzel at -12. Ko won the 2015 Evian Championship and 2016 ANA Inspiration. Ruixin Liu of China is in fourth place at -10. Grewal is tied with two-time major champion Minjee Lee of Australia. Lee won the 2021 Evian Championship and 2022 United States Women’s Open.
