Rimouski to host 2025 Memorial Cup

According to Rogers Sportsnet on Monday, Rimouski, Quebec will host the 2025 Memorial Cup. This will be the second time that Rimouski has hosted the Memorial Cup. They were previously the host in 2009.

Fourteen years ago the Windsor Spitfires won the 2009 Memorial Cup. They defeated the Kelowna Rockets 4-1 in the final. The host Rimouski Oceanic finished the tournament with a record of one win and two losses. The Oceanic’s lone win during the tournament came against the eventual champions, as they defeated the Spitfires during the round robin tournament by a score of 5-4.

Rimouski’s lone Memorial Cup title came in 2000. There they defeated the Barrie Colts 6-2 in the final. The Oceanic’s top player during the tournament was Brad Richards of Murray Harbour, Prince Edward Island. Richards won the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy as the tournament’s most valuable player. He led the tournament in scoring with 10 points (four goals and six assists). Richards was tied with Halifax Mooseheads left winger Ramzi Abid of Montreal, Quebec (six goals and four assists), and Oceanic right winger Juraj Kolnik (five goals and five assists).

Two other occasions the Oceanic participated in the Memorial Cup as Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champions. In 2005, they reached the final before losing 4-0 to the London Knights, and in 2015, reached the semifinal before losing 9-3 to the Kelowna Rockets.
