
Reece Howden of Chilliwack, British Columbia and Courtney Hoffos of Invermere, British Columbia won two medals each to close out the 2024-25 World Cup Ski Cross season in Idre Fjall, Sweden. Howden won back-to-back gold medals on Saturday and Sunday in the men’s events, and Hoffos won back-to-back silver medals in the women’s events on Saturday and Sunday.
In the World Cup men’s ski cross event on Saturday, Simone Deromedis of Italy won the silver medal and Erik Mobaerg of Sweden won the bronze medal. Howden won the first first round heat, the first quarterfinal heat, and the first semifinal heat.
In the World Cup women’s ski cross event on Saturday, Daniela Maier of Germany won the gold medal and Fanny Smith of Switzerland won the bronze medal. Hoffos won the first quarterfinal heat and finished second behind Marielle Berger Sabbatel of France in the first semifinal heat.
In the World Cup men’s ski cross event on Sunday, Youri Duplessis Kergomard of France won the silver medal and Deromedis won the bronze medal. Howden won the first first round heat, the first quarterfinal heat, and the first semifinal heat.
In the World Cup women’s ski cross event on Sunday, Smith won the gold medal, and Talina Gantenbein of Switzerland won the bronze medal. Hoffos won the second quarterfinal heat and finished second behind Smith in the first semifinal heat.
The World Cup ski cross season is now complete. Howden is the World Cup champion on the men’s side with 1038 points. Deromedis is second with 965 points. Hoffos finished seventh on the women’s side with 714 points. Smith won with 1076 points. India Sherret of Cranbrook, British Columbia was the top Canadian in third with 869 points.
Howden has now won 30 World Cup medals (18 gold medals, eight silver medals and four bronze medals). Hoffos has now won 10 World Cup medals (five silver and five bronze). The World Cup medals for Howden and Hoffos will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
