Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Ottawa, Ontario won the ice dance event at the 2022 Skate Canada in Mississauga, Ontario on Saturday. It was one of two medals Canada won in the ice dance competition as Marjorie Lajoie of Boucherville, Quebec and Zachary Lagha of Greenfield Park, Quebec won the bronze medal.
Gilles and Poirier won gold with 215.9 points. Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson of Great Britain won the silver medal with 209.18 points. Lajoie and Lagha won bronze with 195.49 points. Gilles and Poirier reached the podium by 21.51 points and Lajoie and Lagha reached the podium by 1.3 points. Caroline Green and Michael Parsons of the United States finished in fourth place with 194.19 points.
This was the third Skate Canada title for Gilles and Poirier. They previously won in 2019 in Kelowna, British Columbia and in 2021 in Vancouver, British Columbia. In all, Gilles and Poirier have now won 13 medals in Grand Prix events (three gold medals, five silver medals, and five bronze medals).
This is also the first time that Canada has ever won more medals at Skate America than Skate Canada in one year (when both events have taken place). Last week in Norwood, Massachusetts, Canada won three medals–two medals in pairs and one medal in ice dancing.
