
The Ottawa Charge are in the 2026 Walter Cup Playoffs. On Saturday, the Charge blanked the Toronto Sceptres 3-0 at the Toronto Dominion Place in Ottawa, Ontario to improve to a record of nine regulation wins, eight wins in extra time, one loss in extra time and 12 regulation losses for 44 total points.
The Charge entered the game just needing a point to qualify for the playoffs. The Sceptres could have eliminated the Charge with a regulation win.
Two Canadians scored third period goals for the Charge. Sarah Wozniewicz of Cochrane, Alberta scored an insurance goal from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brianne Jenner of Oakville, Ontario at 1:03 of the third period to put the Charge up 2-0. Then, Alexa Vasko of St. Catharines, Ontario scored into an empty net with four minutes and 22 seconds left in the third period.
Jenner is a two-time Olympic gold medalist. She helped Canada win gold in women’s hockey at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
The Charge also got strong goaltending from Gwyneth Philips. She made 41 saves for the shutout.
Heading into the postseason, the Charge will now play the Boston Fleet starting Thursday. Meanwhile, the Montreal Victoire chose to play the Minnesota Frost in the first round.
