The Edmonton Oilers are one win away from reaching the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals. On Friday, the Oilers beat the Dallas Stars 3-1 in game five at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. With the win, the Oilers took a three games to two series lead in the best out of seven series.
The Oilers’s offensive hero on Friday was Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia. He scored two power-play goals. The first goal was at 14:09 of the first period in an all-Canadian goal to open the scoring. Defenseman Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario, and centre and captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario had the assists. Then at 1:06 of the second period, Nugent-Hopkins scored from Leon Draisaitl and Bouchard to put the Oilers up 2-0. Edmonton then went up 3-0 as defenseman Philip Broberg picked up his first postseason point in a dozen games with a goal from the blueline that beat Stars netminder Jake Oettinger. Adam Henrique of Brantford, Ontario and Evander Kane of Vancouver, British Columbia had the assists.
On Saturday, the Florida Panthers can eliminate the New York Rangers. They are currently up three games to two in the Eastern Final. Game six of the Western Final is in Edmonton on Sunday.
