Oilers superstar Connor McDavid named NHL First Star of the Week

Edmonton Oilers centre Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario has been named the National Hockey League First Star of the Week. He was honoured for the week between March 25 to March 31, 2024.

In three games, McDavid had three goals and five assists for eight points. He was a +4 with three power-play points, one game-winning goal, nine shots on goal, six hits, two blocked shots and 16 faceoff wins.

McDavid had two assists in a 4-3 Oilers overtime win over the Winnipeg Jets on March 26, one goal and two assists for three points in a 4-1 Oilers win over the Los Angeles Kings on March 28, and two goals and one assist for three points in a 6-1 Oilers win over the Anaheim Ducks on March 30. McDavid’s game-winning goal came in the Oilers win over the Ducks. McDavid scored from Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario at 14:15 of the first period and put the Oilers up 2-0 at the time.

In 2023-24, McDavid has 29 goals and 97 assists for 126 points. He is a +32 with 30 penalty minutes, 42 power-play points, one shorthanded point, five game-winning goals, 238 shots on goal, 416 faceoff wins, 37 blocked shots, 112 hits, 64 takeaways and 75 giveaways. McDavid’s 97 assists lead the NHL and is a career high. McDavid also has a career high in plus/minus and hits.

The Oilers are in second place in the Pacific Division with a record of 45 wins, 23 regulation losses and five losses in extra time for 95 points. They are five points back of the first place Vancouver Canucks.
