The Edmonton Oilers are in the seventh game of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. On Friday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, the Oilers defeated the Florida Panthers 5-1 to tie the best out of seven series at three games piece.
Five Canadians scored for the Oilers. They were Warren Foegele of Markham, Ontario, Adam Henrique of Brantford, Ontario, Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario, Ryan McLeod of Mississauga, Ontario, and Darnell Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario. Foegele was the only Oiler with a multi-point game as he had one goal and one assist for two points. Henrique scored the game-winning goal at the 46 second mark of the second period from Mattias Janmark and Mattias Ekholm to put the Oilers up 2-0 at the time. McLeod and Nurse both scored into an empty net.
The Oilers are one win away from becoming the first Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup since the Montreal Canadiens in 1993. The Oilers are also trying to become the first team since the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942 to lose the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final before winning the next four. The Canadiens beat the Los Angeles Kings to win the 1993 Stanley Cup and the Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings to win the 1942 Stanley Cup. Game seven is in south Florida on Monday.
