Canadian Olympic gold medalist Natalie Spooner of Scarborough, Ontario was named the Professional Women’s Hockey League first star of the week for the week from February 12-18, 2024. Spooner won the gold medal for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
In two games, Spooner had three goals and zero assists for three points. She was a +3 with 12 shots on goal, one faceoff win, and one power-play point. All three of Spooner’s points (and goals) came on February 14 in a 5-3 Toronto win over Boston. It was her first PWHL hat trick.
On the season, Spooner has 10 goals and one assist for 11 points. She is a +2 with three faceoff wins, three power-play goals, one game-winning goal, and 47 shots on goal. The assist came in a 4-1 Toronto win over Minnesota on February 3. Spooner set up Canadian Olympic gold medalist Blayre Turnbull of Stellarton, Nova Scotia at 11:24 of the third period, which put Toronto up 3-1 at the time. Spooner’s game-winning goal came in a 2-0 Toronto win over New York on January 26. She scored from Hannah Miller of North Vancouver, British Columbia, and Allie Munroe of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. at 16:31 of the second period. Turnbull also won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
The first time this season Spooner was the PWHL First Star of the Week was from January 29 to February 4. She had two goals and one assist for three points.
