Morgan Geekie records first career NHL hat trick

Morgan Geekie of Strathclair, Manitoba recorded his first career National Hockey League hat trick on Thursday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-4 Boston Bruins win over the Vegas Golden Knights at the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Geekie opened the scoring at 14:34 of the first period. Trent Federic picked up the lone assist. Geekie then put the Bruins up 3-0. Danton Heinen of Langley, British Columbia and David Pastrnak picked up the assists. Then at 16:32 of the second period, Geekie put the Bruins up 4-2. David Pastrnak and Matt Grzelcyk picked up the assists.

In 55 games this season, Geekie has 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points. He is a +7 with 20 penalty minutes, with eight power-play points, 93 shots on goal, 211 faceoff wins, 42 blocked shots, 84 hits, 24 takeaways and 18 giveaways.

Geekie meanwhile has only been in the NHL for five seasons, but he has already played for three teams. In addition to playing for the Bruins, Geekie has spent two seasons each with the Carolina Hurricanes and Seattle Kraken.

The Bruins meanwhile are tied with the Florida Panthers for most points in the NHL with 84. The Bruins’s current record is 35 wins, 12 regulation losses, and 14 losses in extra time. The 14 losses in extra time are tied with the New York Islanders for the most in the NHL.
