Mikael Kingsbury wins gold medal in 100th World Cup moguls race

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec won the 100th World Cup moguls competition of his career on Saturday. Kingsbury placed first in a World Cup men’s moguls event in Ruka, Finland.

Kingsbury posted a score of 90.8 points. He reached the podium by 11.39 points over fourth place finisher Dmitriy Reikherd of Kazakhstan, who had 79.41 points. Ikuma Horishima of Japan won the silver medal with 87.39 points and Walter Wallberg of Sweden won the bronze medal with 86.83 points.

This was the first World Cup men’s moguls competition of the 2019-20 season. By winning at Ruka, Kingsbury recorded 100 World Cup points.

Kingsbury’s first World Cup men’s moguls competition took place in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on January 8, 2010. He finished 36th.

In the last decade, Kingsbury has won 57 gold medals in individual moguls competitions. He has also won 20 silver medals and five bronze medals. Kingsbury’s first World Cup medal also took place in Ruka, Finland on December 11, 2010. It was a silver medal, as he placed behind Patrick Deneen of the United States. Kingsbury’s first World Cup gold medal came at Beida Lake, China on December 21, 2010.

Kingsbury won the gold medal for Canada at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. He will be one of Canada’s best chances for a gold medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
