Mia Vallee of Beaconsfield, Quebec has won the silver medal in the women’s three metre springboard diving competition at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Saturday. Vallee posted a score of 329 points for the second place finish.

Yiwen Chen of China won the gold medal with a score of 366.9 points. Yani Chang of China won the bronze medal with a score of 325.85 points. Vallee reached the podium by 13.4 points over Tina Punzel of Germany, who finished in fourth place with a score of 315.6 points.

The silver medal for Vallee was extremely significant. Most would have expected that Chen and Chang would have battled for gold and silver, but the fact the two Chinese divers did not reach the top two places on top of the podium just shows what a fantastic day Vallee had. With the retirement of Jennifer Abel and Meaghan Benfeito after the 220 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, not much was expected from the Canadian diving team at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest. However, Rylan Wiens of Calgary, Alberta and Nathan Zsombor-Murray of Montreal won bronze in the men’s 10 metre synchronized diving event, and Vallee won bronze in the non-Olympic event, the women’s 1 metre springboard.
