Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson win gold at Ostrava Elite 16

Canadian Olympic silver medalists Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson of Toronto, Ontario won the gold medal at the Ostrava Elite 16 Women’s Beach Volleyball event on Sunday. This was the third gold medal in an Elite 16 event for Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson as a team and seventh medal as a team overall.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson had a record of two wins and one loss in Pool F. They defeated Anna and Katerina Pavelkova of the Czech Republic 21-15, 21-16 on Wednesday, and Joana Mader and Leona Kernen of Switzerland 21-17, 21-17  on Friday.

Then in the knockout round on Saturday, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson beat Sandra Ittlinger and Leona Anna-Lena Grune of Germany 21-19, 21-17 in the round of 16. That was followed by a win over Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova of Latvia, 21-17, 23-21. Then in the medal round on Sunday, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson beat Mader and Kernen again. This time in the semifinals by a score of 21-16, 18-21, 15-9. Then in the gold medal game, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson beat Katja Stam and Raisa Schoon of the Netherlands, 21-16, 21-14 to take the title. Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes of Brazil won the bronze medal.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson previously won gold in Montreal in 2023 and in 2025. The reigning Olympic silver medalists from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris have also won silver medals in Doha in 2024, Ostrava in 2024 and Saquarema, Brazil in 2026, and bronze in Ostrava in 2023.
