The Toronto Marlies have taken a 2-1 series lead in the 2018 American Hockey League Calder Cup Finals. On Tuesday evening from the H-E-B Center in Austin, Texas, the Marlies beat the Texas Stars 2-1 in game three of the Calder Cup Playoffs.

It was a strong game for Marlies goaltender Garret Sparks. The native of Elmhurst, Illinois made 19 saves on 20 shots.

Six different Marlies recorded a point. Chris Mueller recorded the first Toronto goal at 3:55 of the second period to tie the game at one goal apiece. Andreas Johnsson and Ben Smith picked up the assists. Then at 12:28 of the second period, defenseman Calle Rosen delivered a shot from the point and the puck went by an immense number of players before going past Stars goaltender Mike McKenna. Trevor Moore and Pierre Engvall picked up the assists.

Two Canadians recorded assists on the lone Stars goal of the hockey game. Remi Elie of Cornwall, Ontario and Brent Regner of Westlock, Alberta had the helpers on a goal by Sheldon Dries.

Game four of the best out of seven series will be in Austin on Thursday, with game five also in Austin on Saturday. If a sixth game is necessary (only to happen if the Stars win one of the two games in Austin), then the series will shift to Toronto on Tuesday.
