Winnipeg Jets centre Mark Scheifele of Kingston, Ontario recorded a hat trick on Thursday in a 6-5 Canada overtime win over Norway at the 2026 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men’s Hockey Championships in Fribourg, Switzerland. Scheifele’s third goal of the game came from Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario and San Jose Sharks captain and centre Macklin Celebrini of North Vancouver, British Columbia 29 seconds into the extra session.
Scheifele led Canada in scoring as he had three goals and one assist for four points. Three other Canadians had a multi-point game. Bouchard had three assists, Winnipeg Jets centre Gabriel Vilardi of Kingston, Ontario had one goal and one assist for two points, and Celebrini had two assists. The other two Canadian goal scorers were Ottawa Senators centre Dylan Cozens of Whitehorse, Yukon, and Nashville Predators centre Ryan O’Reilly of Clinton, Ontario. O’Reilly’s goal was the game-tying goal and came with one minute and 39 seconds left in the third period.
With the win, Canada improves to a record of four wins and zero losses. However, due to the fact Canada did not win in regulation, they only get two points for winning in overtime. Canada next plays Slovenia on Friday.
