According to the Canadian Press on Saturday, Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Mark McMorris of Regina, Saskatchewan set the Winter X Games record for most gold medals ever in men’s slopestyle snowboarding with six. Shaun White had the previous record with five gold medals. McMorris now has 21 Winter X Games medals in his career, including 10 gold medals. McMorris won his Olympic bronze medals in men’s slopestyle snowboarding at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, and the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.
In the men’s slopestyle snowboarding, Marcus Kleveland of Norway won the silver medal, and Sven Thorgren of Sweden won the bronze medal. In all, Team Canada won eight medals at the 2022 Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado, with Maegan Oldham of Parry Sound, Ontario leading the way with two medals.
Oldham won a silver medal in the women’s big air skiing on Friday with a score of 89 points. Tess Ledeux of France won the gold medal with 94 points and Olivia Asselin of Levis, Quebec won the bronze medal with 72 points. Oldham earned a medal by 19 points and Asselin reached a medal by two points, over fourth place finisher Maggie Voisin of the United States, who was in fourth place with 70 points.
Oldham’s other medal was a bronze medal in women’s slopestyle skiing on Saturday. Ledeux won gold and Mathilde Gremaud of Switzerland won silver.
In men’s big air snowboarding on Saturday, Canadian Olympic silver medalist Max Parrot of Cowansville, Quebec, won the silver medal. Parrot, who won a silver medal in men’s slopestyle snowboarding at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, posted a second place score of 81 points to reach the podium by 32 points over McMorris, who was in fourth place with 49 points. Kleveland won the gold medal with 82 points and Rene Rinnekangas of Finland won the bronze medal with 80 points.
In men’s big air skiing on Saturday, Teal Harle of Campbell River, British Columbia, won the bronze medal with 91 points. Alex Hall of the United States won the gold medal with 94 points and Mac Forehand of the United States won the silver medal with 92 points. Harle reached the podium by two points over Edouard Therrialut of Lorraine, Quebec, who finished in fourth place with 89 points.
In Canada’s other two medals, athletes were given a placement rather than an actual score. In women’s slopestyle snowboarding, Canadian Olympic silver medalist Laurie Blouin won the bronze medal on Friday. Zoi Sadowski-Synnott of New Zealand won the gold medal and Jamie Anderson of the United States won the silver medal. Blouin won her Olympic silver medal in women’s slopestyle snowboarding at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. In men’s slopestyle skiing, Max Moffatt of Guelph, Ontario won the silver medal on Sunday. Andri Ragettli of Switzerland won the gold medal and Hall won the bronze medal.
