Marco Arop and Sarah Mitton medal at the Stockholm Diamond League

Canadian Olympic silver medalist Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta and Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, Nova Scotia each won medals at the 2026 Stockholm Diamond League on Sunday. Arop won the silver medal in the men’s 800 metres and Mitton won bronze in the women’s shot put.

Arop, who won a silver medal for Canada at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, posted a second place time in Stockholm of one minute, 43.11 seconds. Cooper Lutkenhaus of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 1:42.70. Silane Moula of Algeria won the bronze medal with a time of 1:43.41. Arop reached the podium by 0.59 seconds. Ben Pattison of Great Britain finished in fourth place with a time of 1:43.70.

Arop has now won 21 Diamond League medals. He has five gold medals, nine silver medals and seven bronze medals. Arop is now in eighth place in the Diamond League standings with seven points. Moula leads with 12 points.

In the women’s shot put, Mitton had a third place throw of 19.89 metres. Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands won the gold medal with a throw of 20.89 metres. Chase Jackson of the United States won the silver medal with a throw of 19.91 metres. Mitton reached the podium by 0.99 metres. Fanny Roos of Sweden finished in fourth place with a throw of 18.9 metres.

Mitton has now won 17 Diamond League medals. She has two gold medals, eight silver medals and seven bronze medals.

This is Mitton’s second Diamond League medal of the season. She won bronze in Shaoxing, China on May 16. In the Diamond League standings for women’s shot put, Mitton is in third place with 12 points. Schilder leads with 16 points. The medals for Mitton and Arop will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
