Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta and Django Lovett of Surrey, British Columbia each won the bronze medal for Canada in Diamond League Track and Field action in Doha, Qatar on Friday. Arop finished third in the men’s 800 metres, and Lovett finished third in the men’s high jump.
Arop posted a time of 1:49.51, a seasonal best. Noah Kibet of Kenya won the gold medal with a time of 1:49.08. Peter Bol of Australia won the silver medal with a time of 1:49.35. Arop reached the podium by five-one-hundredths of a second over Daniel Rowden of Great Britain, who had a fourth place time of 1:49.56.
Lovett had a jump of 2.27 metres. Sanghyeok Woo of South Korea won the gold medal with a jump of 2.33 metres. Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar won the silver medal with a jump of 2.3 metres. Lovett won the bronze medal by .03 metres over Hamish Kerr of New Zealand, who had a fourth place jump of 2.24 metres.
Lovett’s personal best was 2.33 metres which were set at the 2021 Canadian Track and Field Trials in Montreal. Arop’s personal best also happened in 2021, as he posted a time of 1:43.26 in finishing third in the Diamond League event in Monaco. The bronze medals for Arop and Lovett will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
