According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs have brought back defenseman Luke Schenn of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In an intriguing trade, Schenn was traded from the Vancouver Canucks to the Maple Leafs for a third round draft pick in the 2023 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Schenn started his NHL career with the Maple Leafs and was there for four seasons from 2008 to 2012. He then played four seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers from 2012 to 2016, one season with the Los Angeles Kings in 2016, two seasons with the Arizona Coyotes from 2016 to 2018, one season with the Anaheim Ducks from 2018 to 2019, three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks in two separate stints (2019, and again from 2021 to 2023), and two seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning (2020 and 2021).

In 55 games with the Canucks this season, Schenn has three goals and 18 assists for 21 points. He is a +9 with 71 penalty minutes, two shorthanded points, 68 shots on goal, 81 blocked shots, 258 hits, eight takeaways and 27 giveaways.

Schenn collected both shorthanded points this season in Vancouver wins. The first shorthanded assist was on a goal by Bo Horvat of London, Ontario in a 5-2 Canucks win over the New York Islanders on January 24. The second shorthanded assist was on a goal by Elias Pettersson in a 6-2 Canucks win over the Philadelphia Flyers on February 18.

The Maple Leafs are getting a Stanley Cup champion. Schenn won back-to-back titles with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021.

Toronto is currently in second place in the Atlantic Division with 82 points. They have a record of 37 wins, 15 regulation losses, and eight losses in extra time.
