Mackenzie Hughes of Hamilton, Ontario is in contention at the 2024 Royal Bank of Canada Heritage in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. After the second round, Hughes is at -10, and one stroke back of the lead.
Hughes has shot back-to-back rounds of five-under-par 66 to date. In the first round, he had seven birdies and one double-bogey. Hughes birdied the first, fifth, sixth, ninth, 13th, 15th, and 16th holes, and double bogeyed the 10th hole.
There is a four-way tie for the lead. There you can find Americans Tom Hoge, J.T. Poston and Collin Morikawa, and Austrian Sepp Straka at -11. Of the three golfers on top of the leaderboard is one major champion. Morikawa of Los Angeles, California won the 2020 PGA Championship at Harding Park in San Francisco, California, and the 2021 British Open at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, England.
Hughes is in a three-way tie for fifth place. The other two golfers at -10 are Ludvig Aberg of Sweden, and American Patrick Rodgers. In eighth place are two golfers at -9. Those are American golfers Patrick Cantlay and Sahith Theegala. Then there is a two-way tie for 10th place. At -8 are South Korea’s Byeong-Hun An and American Scottie Scheffler. The world number one, Scheffler won the 2022 and 2024 Masters.
