Mackenzie Blackwood of Thunder Bay, Ontario recorded his 10th career National Hockey League hat trick on Saturday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-0 San Jose Sharks win over the St. Louis Blues at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Blackwood made 11 saves in the first period, three saves in the second period, and 21 saves in the third period for 35 saves overall. Blues right winger Jordan Kyrou of Toronto, Ontario led the Blues with eight shots on goal.

Of Blackwood’s 10 NHL career shutouts, eight have been with the New Jersey Devils, and two have been with the Sharks. This was Blackwood’s second shutout of the 2023-24 NHL regular season. The first came in a 2-0 Sharks win over the Seattle Kraken on January 30.

In 2023-24 Blackwood has a record of 10 wins, 21 regulation losses and three losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 3.42 and a save percentage of .900.

This is Blackwood’s first NHL season with the Sharks. He signed a two-year deal worth $4.7 million on Canada Day in 2023.

The win by the Sharks over the Blues was simply not expected. This was San Jose’s first win since March 9 when they beat the Ottawa Senators by a score of 2-1. In their last 10 games, the Sharks have only won once.
