The London Knights have improved to a record of two wins and zero losses at the 2024 Memorial Cup at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan. On Monday, the Knights defeated the Western Hockey League champion Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4. This was the second straight loss for the Warriors as they were beaten 5-4 by the Saginaw Spirit on Friday. The Knights’s first win was a 4-0 victory over the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Saturday.
Three Knights had a multi-point game. Centre Sam O’Reilly of Toronto, Ontario had one goal and one assist for two points, while left winger Denver Barkey of Newmarket, Ontario and right winger Easton Cowan of Mount Brydges, Ontario had two assists each. The other four Knights goal scorers were defenseman Sam Dickinson of Toronto, left winger Landon Sim of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Ruslan Gazizov and Kasper Halttunen.
After four days of competition, the Ontario Hockey League champion Knights and Saginaw Spirit are tied for first place at two wins and zero losses. Meanwhile, the Warriors and Voltigeurs are still looking for their first win. On Tuesday, the Warriors play the Voltigeurs. The winner advances to the semifinal, while the loser is eliminated. Then on Wednesday, the Knights play the Spirit. The winner will advance to the final and the loser will be in the semifinal. There will be no tiebreaker on Thursday.
