According to the Canadian Olympic Committee on Wednesday, high performance curler Lisa Weagle of Ottawa, Ontario has been named the Chef de Mission for Canada at the 2024 Olympic Winter Games in Gangwon, South Korea. Weagle, who is 37 years old, is a three-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion and won the gold medal for Canada at the 2017 Women’s World Curling Championships in Beijing.
Weagle’s Scotties titles came in 2013 in Kingston, Ontario, in 2014 in Montreal, Quebec, and in 2017 in St. Catherines, Ontario with Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario as the skip. In 2013 and 2017, Weagle represented Team Ontario, and in 2014, Weagle represented Team Canada as the defending champion of the Canadian National Women’s Championship.
As a curler on a four person women’s team, Weagle has played the position of lead. However, this season she has concentrated on mixed doubles, where she has teamed up with John Epping of Peterborough, Ontario. Weagle also coached a wildcard team skipped by Kaitlyn Lawes of Winnipeg, Manitoba at the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kamloops, British Columbia this past week. Team Lawes reached the tiebreaker with a record of five wins and three losses, but then lost to Nova Scotia’s Christina Black by a score of 7-6 in 11 ends.
