
Canadian Olympic silver medalist Laurie Blouin of Quebec City, Quebec has won her second World Cup women’s slopestyle snowboarding gold medal in her career. On Sunday, she and Jasmine Baird of Mississauga, Ontario were both on the Canadian podium as they won gold and silver respectively in a World Cup women’s slopestyle snowboarding competition in Bakuriani, Georgia.
Blouin, who won silver in the women’s slopestyle at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, posted a score of 76.25 points in Bakuriani. Baird’s second place score was 70 points. Bianca Gisler of Switzerland won the bronze medal with 67.25 points.
Blouin and Baird reached the podium very comfortably on Sunday. Ariane Burri of Switzerland finished in fourth place with 38.75 points. Blouin reached the podium by 37.5 points, and Baird reached the podium by 31.25 points.
Blouin’s prior World Cup gold medal came at a World Cup in Calgary on February 16, 2020. In her career, Blouin now has two gold medals, five silver medals and three bronze medals for 10 medals overall in either slopestyle or big air snowboarding.
For Baird, it was her third career World Cup medal. She previously placed third in a women’s slopestyle snowboarding event in Seiser Alm, Italy on January 26, 2019, and won a bronze medal in a women’s big snowboarding event in Chur, Switzerland on October 23, 2021.
In the World Cup women’s slopestyle snowboarding standings for 2021-22, Blouin leads with 160 points. Baird is eighth with 94 points.
