Two more teams have clinched playoff spots at the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kamloops, British Columbia. On Wednesday, Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville and Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones reached the final six. McCarville of Thunder Bay, Ontario won Pool B with a record of seven wins and one loss, while Jones has clinched second place in Pool B with a record of six wins and one loss.
McCarville had two victories on Wednesday. First she defeated Yukon 10-2, and second she defeated Newfoundland 8-7. McCarville’s team were not at their best against Newfoundland’s Stacie Curtis. Northern Ontario relied on a Curtis error with her final stone to get into the winner’s circle. Jones meanwhile defeated Casey Scheidegger’s second Wildcard team on Wednesday by a score of 7-6. Jones stole a point in the 11th end when Scheidegger was unsuccessful with a draw attempt rather than attempting a possibly simpler runback.
In Pool B on Thursday, there is a huge game in the morning between Ontario’s Rachel Homan and New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford. Homan can clinch a playoff spot with a victory.
In Pool A, five teams are battling for two spots. After Kerri Einarson’s Team Canada squad which is a perfect 6-0, are Quebec (5-2), Alberta (4-2), Nova Scotia (4-3), the first Wildcard team (4-3), and British Columbia (4-3).
